Westboro Baptist Church is at it again, trying to link the LGBT community to the latest “wrath of God” in Oklahoma. This time, apparently the openly gay Jason Collins and the support of his team are to blame.
The church leader, Fred Phelps, Jr., took to Twitter to voice his thoughts. His first tweet was, “OK Thunder’s Durant flips God by praising fag Collins. God smashes OK. You do the math. #GodH8sFags #FagsDoomNations #FearGod #GodH8sU”. He then made a follow up tweet, “God’s wonderful wrath in Oklahoma reminds me: #GodCursesUForFagMarriage #GodIsYourTerrorist #GodWillRepay #GodAvengesHisPeople #GodH8sU”.
Westboro Baptist Church gained notoriety when they protested at the funeral of Matthew Shepard, a 21 year old man who was robbed, tortured, beaten, and later died from injuries sustained. He was attacked for being gay. At the funeral, the WBC carried signs that read “God Hates Fags”, “No Tears for Queers”, and “Fag Matt in Hell”.
They have also protested at other high profile funerals, such as Elizabeth Edwards, Matthew Snyder, and Michael Jackson.
