Since the BBC and showrunner, Steven Moffat announced Matt Smith’s departure from Doctor Who. The internet and tabloids have exploded with rumors and opinions on who should be the Twelfth Doctor.
We’ve seen eleven different men of all sizes and ages play the iconic role of the Time Lord, but it’s now been fifty years, and we’ve yet to see a woman cast as the Doctor.
Among the many other names being tossed around the Doctor Who fandom, is Helen Mirren.
Former Who actor, Arthur Darvill gave his opinion on that matter.
Darvill told Anglophenia: “I suppose it could be a woman. I don’t know. I think it is a male part, though I think it’s just about the person. I’d love to see Dame Helen do it- best of luck to whoever gets it, though.”
Also being thrown into the speculation is 40-year old actress, Miranda Hart.
Hart was asked about being in the running for the part, to which she responded: “Are you serious? That’s hilarious. I’m just surprised constantly by my popularity, let alone the fact that people want me to be Doctor Who.”
She also said that her main issue with being cast may be stemmed by her fear of the show itself. “I started watching some recently on my own, and I got scared. I had to watch it in the daytime- I’m pathetic. I might be all right if I’m in it though, and don’t have to watch it.”
Steven Moffat and the BBC keep stating that no decisions have been made quite yet.
