Will Netflix Win Over Marco Polo?

Online streaming giant Netflix is reportedly eyeing a new drama series about Italian merchant-traveler Marco Polo.

Subscribers have seen a new trend over the past year with Netflix, as the service has launched a handful of original series. These include the star studded political drama House of Cards, the Eli Roth helmed Hemlock Grove, and it’s newest dramedy Orange Is The New Black.

The Hollywood Reporter reported that the new Marco Polo series was to be developed for the Starz network but was dropped due to filming difficulties. The series is said to be in consideration for a six episode deal with Netflix, according to The Weinstein Company, which ones the rights to the series.

The series, created by writer Dave Erikson of Sons of Anarchy fame and Young Guns writer John Fusco, would follow the adventures of the explorer and even delve into his relationship with Kublai Khan. If the series is green-lit by Netflix, it would join another fresh slate of original shows including the Wachowskis’ Sense 8
