After news that New Girl has been picked up for a third season, the internet is awash with information regarding the casting of a sister character to the show’s kooky protagonist, Jess.

We have been introduced to both of Deschanel’s parents during the show, being played by Rob Reiner and Jamie Lee Curtis, but the news of a sister has sparked a lot of interest and attention across both social media and news sites.
Liz Meriwether, the series creator, has been quick to quash rumours of Deschanel’s own sister, Emily, being offered the role. According to TV Guide, Meriwether stated: “I have a feeling that Emily will have a pretty busy schedule with Bones [but] I’m excited to cast the sister, I think it’ll be really fun!”
Emily has previously shown an interest in starring in the show alongside her sister.
When speaking to Metro, she hinted at the ease of organising a guest spot: “Zooey played my cousin on an episode of Bones a couple of seasons ago and we’ve talked about me coming in to do New Girl. We shoot on the same lot, so if we weren’t so busy it might be really easy to swing on by and play a part.”
Having genuine siblings on screen together would result in a brilliant chemistry but, due to other commitments, this may not be a reality. So we wait, with baited breath, for news of another well suited female to star alongside Zooey and co.
