Now this is some fun casting!
Winona Ryder and Keanu Reeves are set to star in a new romantic comedy called Destination Wedding. The movie will follow two unhappy wedding guests (Ryder and Reeves) who form a connection of their own at someone else’s destination wedding.
According to Gail Lyon, a producer of the film, “Keanu and Winona bring a lot of history and chemistry to their roles, which adds a wonderful dimension to their performances and their dynamic.”
Winona Ryder & Keanu Reeves: Reuniting on Screen
Destination Wedding will be the third time Winona Ryder and Keanu Reeves have appeared together on the big screen. The two previously starred in Francis Ford Coppola’s 1992 Bram Stoker’s Dracula and Richard Linklater’s 2006 A Scanner Darkly.
Though it’s been more than 10 years since Ryder and Reeves graced movie screens together, it won’t be hard for the two to find their rhythm again. As Ryder told MovieWeb about shooting A Scanner Darkly with Reeves, “Keanu helped me especially with the material because it was very challenging… But he makes me feel really safe and was there for me.”
Wayne Marc Godfrey, who is executive producing Destination Wedding, believes Reeves and Ryder are the right combination necessary to strike rom-com gold: “Winona Ryder and Keanu Reeves are wonderfully skillful actors, and their chemistry on-screen truly brings these irascible characters to life. Their unswerving commitment to the project is a testament to both [the] material and director [Victor Levin].”
No production schedule or release date has been revealed yet for Destination Wedding. In the meantime, fans can look forward to Ryder in the second season of Netflix’s Stranger Things beginning in October, while Reeves has a number of new projects currently in the works, including yes—wait for it, wait for it—a third Bill & Ted movie!
