Susannah Moshatt Jones is the world’s oldest person, whose secret to longevity may include a steady diet of bacon accompanied by frequent naps. The 116 year old Brooklyn resident starts each day with bacon and eggs for breakfast and according to her niece, Lois Judge, “she’ll eat bacon all day long”. When she’s not eating bacon, Jones enjoys fruit, meat, potatoes, and veggies.

Jones also credits sleep as part of her secret to a long life, often napping in her recliner during the afternoon. She has lost her eyesight and has “selective hearing”, as one of her 100 nieces and nephews teases. Jones lives at a senior’s residence, but isn’t bed-ridden, and is quite “alert for her age”. She has an astute attention to detail, and can tell when her blanket has been moved or when a stick of gum is missing from her package.

Jones celebrated her 116th birthday this July and received posters and gifts from friends, family, and students at a nearby school. There’s one present she would love to receive, but hasn’t: a call from President Obama. Two autographed portraits of the president hang on her walls, and her love for the President is well known amongst family and the workers at the senior’s residence.

Check out a gallery of photos of Jones from then and now below.
