Zombies usually strike fear in many, but this fresh take on zombies with underlying messages of equality leave nothing to be feared unless you are a bigot!

Comic books have been around for decades and decades, but one specific audience that seems to be overlooked a majority of the time is the LGBT readers. With a lack of portrayal, stereotypes, and the occasional joke where being gay is the eye-roll-inducing punchline, comic book writer Matt Miner has decided to take things into his own hands, and is currently seeking funding for a zombie horror/LGBT series entitled Toe Tag Riot. The description explains:

“A hilariously gory mash up of rad stuff like Night of the Living Dead, a GWAR live show, and hardcore punk rock, TOE TAG RIOT is a tongue-in-cheek, lighthearted torrential downpour of blood and guts sure to please anyone who LOVES FUN and HATES JERKS like Million Moms, Nazi Skinheads, Dudebros and the Westboro Baptist Church! Toe Tag Riot is LGBTQ-positive, and inclusive to everyone except bigots. Bigots are zombie food. Toe Tag Riot is a fun book with a positive message and a diverse cast of wacky characters.”

The independent comic, with artwork by Sean Von Gorman, is seeking $19,000 through Kickstarter, with over $7,000 already pledged and 17 days remaining!Miner notes that without funding for the artists, the book can’t achieve completion. Incentives include shirts, original artwork, signed copies, appearing in the comic, and so much more.

Though all of that is extremely beneficial, having a comic book published that makes LGBT men and women feel like someone has their back is what makes funding this all the more important. If this creative series makes its financial goal for distribution, readers can finally see an example of spreading love and understanding, even if it takes punk rock zombies squaring off against anyone who says otherwise.

Check out their Kickstarter page for more information, artwork, and how to become a contributor to a game-changing comic book.
