X-Men’s James McAvoy Is Sick of Shaving His Head

James McAvoy may enjoy playing Professor Charles Xavier, but that doesn’t mean he’s liking the character’s trademark lack of hair.

We may be loving James McAvoy’s awesome portrayal of a younger Professor Charles Xavier, but McAvoy himself is getting a little sick of some aspects of the role, with one thing in particular standing out, the character’s trademark bald head.

“Since I did two movies that everybody saw where I had a bald head, now it’s like a f*cking beacon,” said McAvoy, “But what do I like about it? Not a lot at the moment. I like when it’s been about five or seven days going in, then it’s cool. But when it’s properly skinhead I look a bit weird.”

The latest X-Men film makes this the third time the actor has had to shave off his hair. Fun fact: McAvoy originally shaved his head for X-Men: First Class, only to discover the director actually wanted Xavier to have a full head of hair in his origin story! Bald Professor X didn’t show up until the end of X-Men: Age of Apocalypse.

Things aren’t all bad for McAvoy, in spite of his hair woes, as the actor added, “I do like the fact that I don’t have to do anything in the morning.”

He also managed to hang a bit of a lampshade on the hairdo, with his character in Atomic Blonde even mentioning the close cropped look.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix is currently in production and much of the cast is returning for this next installment, including Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, and Sophie Turner. The film will be directed by Simon Kinberg. More X-Men news was released recently as actress Summer Fontana of The Originals was announced as young Jean Grey. The actress recently tweeted a photo from Montreal, where she was filming. Jessica Chastain has also been rumored for the film, playing the role of Lilandra, love interest for Professor Xavier.
