If you’re familiar with the band The True Blue, then you might already know the name Christian Koo. The True Blue went their separate ways last year, but Christian was determined to remain a staple of the music scene and recently launched his new, indie-pop project Yueku.

He’ll drop his debut EP Somewhere Else on July 30^th, but before that, PopWrapped are delighted to premiere his new single “Damage Control”, about which he says: “I started writing “Damage Control” during lockdown, sometime in the summer of 2020. It’s a song about getting yourself out of a relationship before it completely implodes. It explores making the hard & difficult decision to move on when you can see that your partner brings out the absolute worst in you. Even if there is some good to said relationship, when the cons outweigh the pros, it can be best to move on. Though that decision is intimate, it’s certainly not a personal one.”

He goes on to add: “Sometimes, we merely need to distance ourselves from people who time & time again, simply make us feel bad. It is not our responsibility to change people for the better when we have so much figuring out to do on ourselves, on our own. I certainly need a reminder of that every now & then & this song definitely serves as a note to self. I hope some people can connect with that.”

The music Yueku makes, rather inspired by the likes of Frank Ocean and 90’s rom-coms, is impressively crafted bedroom pop, perfect for playing whenever you like need it be at home alone, on a drive with friends, or even at a party. With modern production behind each track and his great ability to write songs that resonate long after they’ve finished playing, Yueku is testament to Christian’s lyrical and artistic talents, and suggests he’ll be a name on people’s lips and in their ears for some time to come.
