ZIMINY Tease New Album ‘Love Language’ With Latest Single “Venom”

“I hope the take away from this song is for others struggling with mental health to know they are not alone, and if needed, to seek help.”

As a former member and bass player of AWOLNATION, David Amezcua is no stranger to the highs, lows, pleasures and stresses of the music business. He also knows how important it is to keep growing as an artist, and he’s an individual who has done so in his own way; by creating synth-electro-pop project ZIMINY.

With numerous artistic influences to be inspired by – The Doors, Toto, Cage The Elephant and Elton John among them – ZIMINY’s sound is different to that of Amezcua’s former band, but still holds some traces of the style that made and makes their music popular with fans. That said, ZIMINY’s new single “Venom”, which PopWrapped are delighted to premiere, is raw, melodic and shows off a very different side to the one already showcased through past releases including “She (Zooey Deutch)” and offers another glimpse as to what we all might expect to hear more of when album Love Language drops on Friday.

This new project has also allowed Amezcua to return to the instrument he has always felt a true, genuine connection to; the piano. Referring to how being back on the keys has influenced his latest music, he says: “It’s strange. It’s taken 10 years of playing music professionally to sit in the chair that sort of started it all for me. I would consider the direction of the sound direction-less, or no genre, as I have so many influences that will inspire a different shade of a song.”

Asked about “Venom”, he adds: “Venom” is a personal song for me. I’m very open about my own battle with mental health. And I think we need more people sharing about their experience. Lately we’ve seen it play out on the world stage with Kanye West and his very public episodes. This song touches upon the topic of using extremely toxic language with the people who matter most. “My bite is venom” refers to when you’ve already attacked before you thought out your actions. It’s about how our defense mechanisms can ultimately hurt more than they protect.  If anything, I hope the take away from this song is for others struggling with mental health to know they are not alone, and if needed, to seek help.”
