US fans of the BBC Crime drama Peaky Blinders rejoice! The Weinstein Company has acquired the rights to bring the show state-side as well as video on demand. Harvey Weinstein is more than pleased with the deal stating, “We have always been big fans of Steven Knight’s work and are extremely excited to bring this show stateside, where it’s sure to thrill audiences just as much as it did in the UK.”
Peaky Blinders stars Cillian Murphy (The Dark Knight franchise) and Sam Niell (Jurassic Park) and is set in Birmingham, England in 1919. The show focuses on the Shelby family who lead the Peaky Blinders, a notorious gang know for sewing razor blades into the peaks of their caps. Murphy stars as Blinders leader Thomas Shelby, who sees an advancement opportunity when a crate of guns go missing from the local arms factory.
The show pulls in an average 2.4 million viewers across the series and is also responsible for a sales boom in Newsboy caps in London. Luckily no one has been requesting them with the razor blades sewn in! No word yet on a US premier date.
