“Eau To Be” by Gillian
Gillian’s “Eau To Be” is a juxtaposition – a pop/indie song with a great upbeat vibe that oozes regret lyrically. I bet it’s a hit when performed in any of NY’s endless intimate venues.
Kym Hawkins, whose assertive, bright vocals can be heard on the track, described it as a “celebration of defeat” in a recent interview with Consequence of Sound. That it is, but defeat can be pretty damn catchy, huh?
Look out for Gillian’s EP, Strange Candy, later this year.

“Hot and Bothered” by Tameca Jones
If you’ve been paying attention, you’ve seen Tameca’s jazzy uptempo track featured here before, but it’s a song worth writing about twice. I’m all about an ode to the oldies, and “Hot and Bothered” is that and more.

“Skin” by Dregas
Using her melodic vocals as the perfect channel, Dregas tackles the real issues of race, gender, and patriarchy with introspective lyrics and a colorful ‘80s-like rhythm. It’s multi-layered and thought-provoking, which I cannot help but appreciate.

“Waves” by CHNNLL (aka Chris Davidson)
This song has such a wonderfully laidback vibe, CHNNLL’s soulful lyrics somehow working well over the gentle synth. I’m left with the immediate desire to witness this live – I think it would make for a great atmosphere, something you’d want to close your eyes and sway to.

“Drown” by Morgan St. Jean
“Drown” is a mournful beauty, and Morgan’s dynamic vocals could stand up to many of the female powerhouses dominating mainstream music right now. Her soaring notes are the perfect ending to the track.
