A fishing group in Florida claims to have caught the first great white shark caught from the land out of the Gulf of Mexico.

On Sunday, March 1, a nearly 10-foot great white shark was caught on the surf in Florida.

At around 3:15 am, a group of fishers from the Dark Side Sharkers shark fishing group got a hit on one of their lines while fishing at Panama City Beach. After a 45 minute battle to reel it in, they found a 9 foot 8.5 inch great white at the end.

According to the group’s Facebook page, none of them had actually seen a great white before. “Amazing to finally see one in person,” The post read. “No doubt a once in a lifetime catch.” The group also claims that this is the first great white to have been caught from the land out of the Gulf of Mexico.

The shark was photographed before being tagged and released.
