13 Reasons Why star, Brandon Flynn says that he is part of the LGBTQ community in an emotional Instagram post. He did it in response to an anti-marriage equality stunt done in Australia, wherein a plane was hired to write “Vote No” over the skies in Sydney.

Australia will be conducting a postal survey among its citizens this September to gauge the public’s support for same-sex marriage. The result will not be binding but Parliament has promised that if the outcome is yes, they will conduct a free vote on the legislature on whether to legalize gay marriage.
23-year-old Flynn got wind of the statement and decided to speak out against it. Posting a picture of an LGBT flag on his Instagram this Sunday, he wrote, “Just saw the ‘vote no’ message in the sky, looming over Sydney. Thank you for raising money and hiring on a plane to write your lack of support amongst the clouds. I hope your hate and lack of understanding fades, just like those words will.”
And then he added the part wherein in a subtle way he identifies himself as part of the LGBTQ community but puts more emphasis on the struggle. “Too many of my friends have been kicked out of their homes, kept in the closet, beat up, killed, ridiculed by church and state, institutionalized… and you are scared that if we vote YES, you won’t be able to show your hate for Us.” he stated. “We’ve fought, we’ve come out bravely even in our fear, and you wrote a message in the sky because you’re scared. Equality takes courage”
Previously there have been rumors and speculations among fans that Flynn is dating his 13 Reasons Why co-star Miles Heizer, but a rep for Heizer has denied that the gossip is true.
Brandon Flynn plays jock Justin Foley in the Netflix hit series. It is a critically acclaimed role that has gained him worldwide fame and has allowed him to amass more than 3.4 million followers on his Instagram account. He will be returning for its second season which will premier on 2018.
