2015 Will Not See A New Game Of Thrones Novel

George R.R. Martin’s publisher has confirmed that the latest installment of the Game Of Thrones series is not slated to be published this year.

Brace yourselves, Game of Thrones fan: Winter is definitely not coming in 2015. George R.R. Martin’s publisher, Jane Johnson at HarperCollins, has confirmed that the latest installment of the beloved series, entitled The Winds of Winter, is not slated to be published this year. Instead, the publisher will be offering up an illustrated edition of a previously released anthology including the short stories The Hedge Knight, The Sworn Sword, and The Mystery Knight. Martin took to his blog in December and spoke about the novel and had this to say:

Look, I’ve said before, and I will say again, I don’t play games with news about the books.  I know how many people are waiting, how long they have been waiting, how anxious they are.   I am still working on WINDS.  When it’s done, I will announce it here.

This could prove to be interesting for the HBO show since season 5 is based on books four and five of the novels and this marks the end of the source material for the show. The HBO saga has already begun to deviate a bit from the novels but has managed to remain fairly true to basic plot lines.

So, what could this mean for the show? Well, this writer hopes they are able to work closely with Martin to somehow bridge the gap in a way that makes sense. The last thing anyone wants is another repeat of True Blood.

So, what do you think, Game of Thrones fans? Should HBO forge ahead even if the new novel hasn’t been published? Leave your comments below!
