Australian pop rock band 5sos just hit the No. 1 spot in the UK charts with “She Looks So Perfect”. The single was released through Capitol Records, marking their debut with a major label.

Made up of Luke Hemmings (lead vocals, guitar), Michael Clifford (guitar, vocals), Calum Hood (bass guitar, vocals) and Ashton Irwin (drums, vocals), the band first shot to fame by posting covers of songs on their YouTube channel, eventually gaining a large following in social media. They are the first Australian act to hit no.1 with a debut single in the UK in the 14 years.

The band shared hugs and shed a tear or two as it was announced that they hit No.1 while guests on BBC Radio 1.

“To every single one of our fans, we need to thank you and we want to send you endless love,” 5sos drummer Ashton said. “I’m going to cry.”

Not forgetting friends who have helped them along the way, 5sos thanked boy band One Direction; “We’d like to give a shout out to (One Direction). They picked us up out of nowhere and took us on tour with them”.

While they were still starting on their road to fame, One Direction member Louis Tomlinson posted a link to one of their videos and fellow 1D member Niall Horan followed suit. Back in 2013 5sos supported One Direction in their worldwide Take Me Home tour and it has also been announced that they will support the boy band again in the upcoming North American leg of their Where We Are tour.
