Brit Awards 2015: Winners

While the winners of the Brit Awards 2015 are partying the night away, catch up on which of your favorite artists walked away with an award.

It seems like just yesterday that the nominees for the 2015 Brit Awards were announced, but the ceremony has already come and gone.

The biggest categories went as many would have expected.

Ed Sheeran won for Best British Album and British Male Solo Artist, both incredible honors that he deserves for his sophomore album, X. It dominated the charts for months after he released it last year.

Sam Smith snagged the Global Success Award, as well as British Breakthrough. These are his first ever Brit Awards, topping off his phenomenal start to 2015–he won four Grammys earlier this month. His debut album, In The Lonely Hour, has catapulted him to stardom and that success is sure to continue for some time.

Taylor Swift won International Female Artist, her first ever Brit Award, although she’s been performing in the UK for eight years now. Another well-deserved and expected win, considering the records she’s been shattering with her pop transition album, 1989. She also opened the show with a dramatic performance of “Blank Space.”

The toughest category was, arguably, the Best British Single. Up against serious competition like Calvin Harris, Ed Sheeran, and Sam Smith, Mark Ronson took home the award for his collaboration with Bruno Mars, “Uptown Funk.” The track became a massive hit soon after its debut, combining Ronson’s stellar production and Mars’ powerful vocals in an ode to another era.

As for British Video, the nominees’ fans voted up until the last half hour of the ceremony, tweeting incessantly. In the end, One Direction won the award for “You and I”–not much of a surprise considering the sheer number of female fans they attract.
