’90s Kids Rejoice! Nickelodeon Super Movie Is In The Works

Nickelodeon is teaming up with Paramount and the creative team behind Napoleon Dynamite to bring you a film packed with all your fave Nick toons!

Children of the ’90s, rejoice! Nickelodeon and Paramount are teaming up for one massive film titled NickToons. Characters from Rugrats, The Angry Beavers, Aaahh! Real Monsters, Ren & Stimpy, and many more classic Nickelodeon shows will all make appearances. NickToons is coming to us from the writers of Napoleon Dynamite and Nacho Libre, Jared and Jarusha Hess. Jared Hess will also be directing the feature.

Paramount has previously worked with Nickelodeon for the theatrical releases of The Rugrats Movie and The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie. Deadline reports that this could be “Paramount’s answer to Who Framed Roger Rabbit” and that Paramount is hoping this “will spark a franchise.” NickToons has the nostalgia factor that helped propel Star Wars: The Force Awakens to massive box office success and like Avengers, they hope it will draw in audiences just to see how they managed to weave all these characters together in one film. Nickelodeon has been making efforts of late to revive their classic cartoon series. New programming blocks are airing reruns of fan favorite shows and a new Hey Arnold! TV movie is in the works.

It will be interesting to see how Paramount and Nickelodeon work with the mixture of animation styles, from the computer animated Jimmy Neutron to hand-drawn animation series like Rugrats, and whether any live-action will be used. Which classic NickToons characters do you want to see make the cut? In addition to those already mentioned, I’d personally like to see characters from Rocket Power. I loved that show as a kid and fits in well with the rest of the Klasky Csupo series including Rugrats, The Wild Thornberrys, and As Told By Ginger. The Rugrats and Thornberrys met back in 2003 for Rugrats Go Wild.

With such diverse characters and stories, the biggest challenge will be developing a well-written plot to bring all the characters together. Pitch your concepts in the comments and tell us which characters you would put in NickToons.
