If you think The Twilight Zone is the creepiest thing you’ve ever seen on TV, or that LOST is the craziest thing you’ve ever seen on TV, imagine what you’d get when you combined the two together. Unseen for nearly forty years, The Twilight Zone creator Rod Serling’s final screenplay will be making it to our screens at last!

J.J. Abrams’ production company Bad Robot has picked up the rights to Serling’s The Stops Along the Way, and will be developing it into a miniseries with Warner Bros. TV. That brings Bad Robot’s TV total for next season to five, including returning favourites Revolution (NBC), Person of Interest (CBS), new mid-season shows Almost Human (FOX) and Believe (NBC).

Little has ever been revealed about Serling’s final script, though his widow Carol has told Variety that it includes “a little bit of fantasy, a little bit of imagination [and] takes place over a long period of time,” and was “one of [her] husband’s favourite pieces.” Given Serling’s previous writing successes, including Planet of the Apes and Rod Serling’s Night Gallery, and the fact that The Twilight Zone was recently named the #3 best-written show of all time by the WGA, it seems likely that his last work will be one to look out for. In his last-ever interview in March of 1975, just a few months before his untimely death at fifty, when asked which scripts he had a “special feeling for,” Serling answered:

“Well, I guess Requiem for a Heavyweight as old as it is was as honest a piece as I’ve ever done. Tearing Down Tim Reilly’s Bar (from Night Gallery) was one of my favorites. And then one that I just wrote called The Stop Along the Way, which is, I think, a lovely script.”

The Stops Along the Way remains in development, and will be shopped to various networks as a limited series.
