This is significantly less payout than the $2.1 million paid for Nicholas Cage’s pristine copy in 2011.

So why such a huge price gap? This copy of Action Comics #1 was used as wall insulation. It stayed in the walls of a rural home in Minnesota for decades until a contractor discovered it. The comic’s cover was ripped slightly in an argument the contractor had with his wife’s aunt about it.

According to the 10-point ratings scale used by the Comic Guaranty Corp, this copy of Action Comics #1 only ranked a one point five. Still though the allure of Superman is so great that fans of the Man of Steel were more than willing to pay six figures for it.

So what do we learn here? Before very careful tearing out insulation in old farmhouses, you never know what you might find.
