The Superman reboot, Man of Steel, reached $21 million from its Thursday night showings. According to TheWrap, $9 million were from the midnight showings and the rest were from 7pm corporate group screenings.

The much anticipated Warner Bros. release is celebrating the 75th anniversary of Superman and stars Henry Cavill as Superman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Russell Crowe as Jor-El and Michael Shannon as General Zod. Zack Snyder directs and Christopher Nolan produces the film.

If the film continues with the big buzz, the film is set to surpass $100 million over the weekend. If it does gross over $100 million it’ll be one of the highest three-day June opening weekends joining the ranks of Toy Story 3 and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. Toy Story 3 opened in June 2010 and grossed $110 million the first weekend while Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen grossed $108 million in 2009.

Man of Steel will also be making its way to other markets including the U.K., South Korea, Mexico, China and Russia.

We also reported that a sequel is already in the works, so if the Man of Steel soars in the box office and avoids kryptonite maybe the sequel will come sooner and we’ll see the Justice League form.

Now who’s going to see Man of Steel this weekend?
