Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle fans, prepare yourselves. The upcoming film reboot will be “… not like any Mutant Ninja Turtles thing you’ve ever seen before.” says William Fichtner, the man who will play the Turtles’ arch-nemesis, Shredder.

During an interview to promote his new TV series, Crossing Lines, Fichtner spoke about the Michael Bay produced Ninja Turtles, calling it “freaky”. “It’s freaky, they’re cool, and they’re mutants and they look awesome. It’s tough and it’s going to be really, really great.”

We’ve known for some time now that Fichtner’s Shredder wouldn’t be the original and more traditionally known Oroku Saki, but would instead be a new character called Eric Sachs. In the interview, Fichtner gives us a sneek peek at the new Shredder.

“Well I play a guy named Eric Sachs and we find out that Eric Sachs is somebody else too. I can’t give away too much in the story but I can tell you that who Shredder is in the telling of this Turtles is unlike any telling of the story before. His connection and relationship to the turtles is a bit surprising and for an actor playing it, the back story, which comes out in this film, is really intriguing…We made some changes while filming that I thought are just awesome.”

So while it seems clear that the Shredder we knew and loved as kids will not be the Shredder that graces our screens this time round, we can rest assured that there will be one aspect that they are keeping intact, and that is Shredder’s iconic armour. “Shredder dons himself with armour, and that’s who he is and that happens in this story” however “It’s the back story on how it all began with the turtles, that character of Eric Sachs… it’s not by chance he knows the Turtles.”

Lastly, Fichtner revealed that the Ninja Turtles is planned as a trilogy, “Do I think you’re going to see another one? I think you’re going to see a few of them. I signed a three picture thing, so I’ll see what happens.”

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is directed by Jonathan Liebesman from a screenplay by Josh Applebaum, Andrew Nemec, Art Marcum, Matt Holloway and John Fusco. The film stars Megan Fox as April O’Neil, Alan Ritchson as Raphael, Jeremy Howard as Donatello, Pete Pliszak and Leonardo, Noel Fisher as Michelangelo, Will Arnett as Vernon Fenwick, Danny Woodburn as Master Splinter and William Fichtner as Shredder.

The film is set for a theatrical release on August 8, 2014.
