“Cory appreciated each and every one of his fans that came out to the shows…He never alienated himself from anyone…Anyone who actually met him out on the road can attest to that.”

Cory Monteith’s former bandmates had nothing but nice things to say about their friend and drummer as they reflected on the process in creating their latest EP ‘Miramar.’

Speaking with HollywireTV, Justin Wilczynski and Joshua Kerr talked about how Cory pushed the boys to become a band again, after his time with Justin on MTV’s Kaya back in 2007. Cory played a big role in the creating and recording of ‘Miramar’ so the remaining band members knew that they couldn’t rush to release the songs. They needed the time to grieve and process the Glee star’s passing, something that the boys say still doesn’t seem completely real to them.

In a testament to the power of the Glee and Cory Monteith fans, ‘Miramar’ debuted at 117 on iTunes in presales with zero promotion and marketing. “The people who come out to see us play and listen to are music are just so devoted and are just so into music. And that’s exactly the people that you want listening to your music and talking about your music.”

Justin and Josh spoke about the songs on the EP, telling of the West Coast influence on a group of songs, “…it’s just good vibes, you get a nostalgic, happy feeling… when you listen to this CD.” The choice of the first single off ‘Miramar’ was even a tribute to Cory Monteith; since it was written, ‘Endless Summer’ was always the song Monteith pushed hardest for the band to record and include on the EP.

Looking into the future, Bonnie Dune has big plans for 2014 that include writing, recording and even touring! The band has already started working on new material for the band which will include more personal, darker, moodier stuff but still with the nostalgic vibe. “It’s just something I had to get off my chest…to record it as soon as possible so I didn’t have to…keep thinking about it.”

Justin and Josh mentioned that they want Bonnie Dune to hit the road for the summer, from June to August which gave interviewer Chelsea Briggs a killer idea for a tour mate: Lea Michele! The pair jumped at the idea saying that it could totally work since there is so much fan crossover between the two thanks to Glee. “There are so many intertwining things that could work on so many levels.”

Even with all the new material and era for the band, Justin will always remember something about Cory, “…he took us out of our comfort zone of writing these depressing, slow, melodic songs. He brought this new energy to Bonnie Dune and that’s something that I’ll miss.”

Have you heard Bonnie Dune’s New EP ‘Miramar’? Would you go see them on tour this summer?
