Jon Stewart And Wife Turn Farm Into Animal Sanctuary

Jon Stewart and wife, Tracey have plans to convert a recently purchased New Jersey farm into an animal sanctuary for rescued farm animals

Jon Stewart has only been gone from The Daily Show for about a week and is already missed terribly. However, Stewart’s fans won’t need to worry about the political satirist/comedian getting bored or complacent in his retirement. He and his wife, former veterinary technician Tracey Stewart, purchased a farm in New Jersey and have plans to convert it into a sanctuary for rescued farm animals.

The Stewart family have been advocates for animal rights for many years. Tracey described the whole household’s love of animals in a press release, saying that they often exchange “promises of animal shelter visits” for “completed homework”. They’ve also adopted numerous animals over the years, including multiple dogs, horses, pigs, and hamsters, all of which were rescues. Tracey has also recently authored a book called Do Unto Animals, which discusses “the kindest ways to live with and alongside” animals. In addition, Jon has devoted time on The Daily Show to discuss animal rights issues. Earlier this year the show aired a segment about New Jersey governor and Republican presidential hopeful Chris Christie’s support of inhumane gestation crates. Jon has also promoted the efforts of animal protection organization Farm Sanctuary through an interview with founder Gene Baur.

In recognition of the Stewarts’ efforts, Farm Sanctuary, an organization created with the goal of protecting farm animals from cruel and inhumane treatment, has named a pair of sheep after the couple. The organization will also host an event to honour the Stewarts in October.
