Coming out can be one of the most difficult and most important moments in a person’s life. It can either change a person’s life for the better or for the worse. The happiest place on Earth just helped bring a little bit more happiness to one family’s life.
A year after realizing her sexuality, one California teen figured out the best way to finally come out to her mom, dad and brother.
“I am not the type of person to have a deep, sit-down conversation,” said the teen. “I wanted to tell them in a lighthearted and fun way.” And nothing says fun and lighthearted like Disneyland and its rides.
It isn’t uncommon for people to make the pictures taken on the various rides at Disney Parks into something much more than a picture of people screaming at the big surprise moment of a ride. This teen took the perfect opportunity to make the big reveal on the iconic Splash Mountain at Disneyland park. With a simple rainbow-colored sign packed along, the teen waited in the back of the log for the photo-op to drop the big news.

Her family reacted very positively to the news. The mom was immediately accepting of the news and even sent the picture via text to the remaining and unaware family members. Turns out, her family already had an inkling of the teen’s sexuality, with her dad and brother being “already 70% sure” she was gay.
The Internet has had a positive reaction to the girl’s coming out too. She may not be the first to use the photo as an opportunity to drop some big news, but she’ll never be forgotten. Her picture could easily become one of many memorable perfectly-timed photos in the history of theme park photos.
The teen had this to say about the Internet’s reaction to her picture: “People have responded saying I’ve inspired them to do the same thing, which I think is the coolest part of all.”
