Looks like you don’t need HBO to watch the season three premiere of Girls. HBO has taken it upon themselves to put the season three premiere of Girls on YouTube, only 12 hours before it’s scheduled to air on HBO. The move to YouTube comes right after HBO began some social media marketing promotions for SnapChat and 4 Vine Video for Game Of Thrones that came out just last week.
Sabrina Caluori, the vice president of social media and marketing for HBO had this to say about the move to YouTube: “For us, this is an increasingly challenging demographic to reach with traditional means.” Caluori also explains that ways of sharing media like GIFs and Snapchat are “really becoming more mainstream.”
HBO has renewed Girls for a fourth season, so it’s safe to assume that we haven’t seen the last of these social media advertisements.
