Acantha Lang Shares Live Studio Video For EP Title Track “Sugar Woman”

“…a bittersweet story was born about hope, sadness, and not giving up, even if life has taken you down some pretty dark roads.”

There’s something about soul music that just touches you, makes you think and feel certain things. Acantha Lang is the latest, ‘gotta watch’ star on the soul scene, and her songs pack an emotional and thought-provoking punch. Her EP Sugar Woman has received acclaim from the likes of American Songwriter who compared Acantha’s full-bodied vibrato to the venerable vocal flutter of Aretha Franklin, and the praise just keeps on coming. 2021 has been a hugely successful year for this incredibly talented singer and today, PopWrapped are delighted to round it off by premiering the live studio performance video for the title track of her EP.

Acantha shares of the song: “’Sugar Woman’” is a song I wrote many years ago with my friend, Kiris Houston – he’s won a Latin Grammy you know! We wrote the song when I first moved to London from New York City. The song was inspired by the Rodrigeuz song ‘Sugar Man’, from the Oscar-winning Documentary Searching for Sugar Man. I thought to myself “if a Sugar Man is a drug dealer, then what would a Sugar Woman be?” From that question, a bittersweet story was born about hope, sadness, and not giving up, even if life has taken you down some pretty dark roads.”

She goes on to add of the visuals: “My friend and brilliant filmmaker/director, Craig McCall helped to create this stunning music video that I absolutely love! He brought in his long-time friend, Emmy award-winning David Langan as Director of Photography who did the most beautiful lighting to really capture the mood of the song… it’s everything I hoped for and more.
