Adam Savage And Chris Hadfield Go Incognito – As Astronauts – At SDCC

Adam Savage and Chris Hadfield upped the cosplay game this year at SDCC, dressed in fully functioning astronaut suits.

Mythbusters host Adam Savage has been known to wander around the floor of San Diego Comic Con wearing a costume. It’s a game he calls “Adam Incognito” and the object is to see how long it takes before somebody recognizes him. Past costumes include Admiral Ackbar, Hellboy and No-Face from Spirited Away. Savage is an amazing prop builder and for his costume this year he went all out. He built a spacesuit from 2001: A Space Odyssey and got astronaut Cmdr. Chris Hadfield to join him.

Savage’s suit took approximately five years to make and, luckily, an extra one was located so Hadfield, attending his first ever Comic-Con, could accompany him. Known for his elaborate costumes and attention to detail, Savage knew he’d be recognized quickly if he wandered alone. Enlisting a partner-in-crime was a break from tradition, and did seem to have the intended effect. More attention was drawn to the detailed costumes than the people wearing them.

The spacesuits had quite a few features particularly well-suited to the event, including a self-cooling system, a mirrored visor to keep their faces hidden and screen-accurate lunch pails.

Their adventure was captured on video, and is now on YouTube. Check it out below.
