The NBA draft is a big night for all those who put in hours of hard work and dedication. While Andrew Wiggins got the honor of hearing his named called first, many will be talking Isaiah Austin time in the spotlight. Adam Silver did one of the classiest gestures a league commissioner can give: he drafted Austin because his basketball career was cut too short with the diagnosis of Marfan Syndrome.
The Baylor standout was expected to hear his name called in the first round up until his recent diagnosis. NBA commissioner made sure his dream came true. While it wasn’t the way he imagined his draft day going, I’m sure that just hearing his name be called was a gratifying moment.
I beg you to watch the video and choke back those tears at the same time. Adam Silver has had an outpouring of support mere minutes after drafting Austin. Superstar Kevin Durant tweeted his support and admiration for the move, “Adam silver is such a classy man! That’s love right there. I’m emotional for him. Damn I love that.”
