Royal Mail has unveiled their set of stamps celebrating the BBC’s Doctor Who series’ 50th anniversary! The first class stamps feature each of the eleven actors who have played The Doctor over the last 50 years, in addition to a miniature sheet including the TARDIS, a Dalek, an Ood, a Weeping Angel and a Cyberman. Former Doctors Tom Baker, Peter Davison and Paul McGann recently attended an event in London in support of the launch of the set of stamps, which had the highest set of pre-registration numbers in Royal Mail history.
As well as this, Royal Mail have created unique postmarks for stamped post sent from the hometown of each of the actors who have played the Time Lord, for example Northampton (Matt Smith) and Salford (Christopher Eccleston).
Speaking about the Doctor Who stamp collection, Andrew Hammond (Managing Director of Stamps and Collectibles at Royal Mail) said, “Following our launch announcement last year, we’ve had a fantastic response from the public who seemingly can’t wait for the stamps. This shows just how much we all love Doctor Who”.
As well as this, Fiona Eastwood of the BBC said, “With the second part of the latest Doctor Who series out very soon, these stamps are the perfect way to mark this as well as the 50th anniversary”. The new Doctor Who episode ‘The Bells Of Saint John’ will air this Saturday (March 30) on BBC One at 6.15pm.
The stamps went on sale today, and are available at 9,000 Post Office branches across the UK, and internationally online at www.royalmail.com/doctorwho.
