After Being Hospitalized Idris Elba Attends Premiere For His New Film

The sign of a true artist these days is that you don’t let certain medical issues get in the way of taking the time to celebrate your work. Idris Elba attended the premiere for his Nelson Mandela biopic film this past Friday even after he had a bit of a medical emergency.

We here at Popwrapped reported earlier this week about Elba being hospitalized so we’re happy to give a postive update to a story that could have essentially gone negatively as well. Elba plays Mandela in Nelson Mandela: The Long Walk To Freedom, and he was heading to South Africa on a plane for the premiere when he became ill.

Even though Elba has missed a scheduled press conference in Johannesburg, the film’s executive producer said at the time that he remained hopeful that Elba would be able to recover in time for the film’s south African premiere. Elba recently told Sky News I’ve battled asthma most of my life and it just overwhelmingly took me down on Friday, while I was sitting on a plane. It was a very scary moment for me. A doctor on the plane helped me through it. Thankfully, I am here.”’
