Bill Paxton is set to follow in the footsteps of Samuel L. Jackson, appearing on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D for multiple episodes.

TV Guide announced that Paxton is playing part cybernetic S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, John Garrett, a character that is featured in the comic series. Executive Producer Jed Whedon explained that Garrett is a “rough-and-tumble former cohort of Agent Coulson (Clark Gregg) with a little bit of attitude and cigar-smoking swagger.”

Garrett also happens to be Agent Ward’s (Brett Dalton) former mentor.

Although Paxton won’t make his S.H.I.E.L.D. debut until March 4, we do know that he will be teaming up with Ward and Agent May (Ming-Na Wen) during his episode arc.

Whedon also gave a brief synopsis of Garrett: “When Garrett got his promotion to Level 7, he refused to sit behind a desk and doesn’t like the formalities of S.H.I.E.L.D. He’s going to help Coulson solve some mysteries and is not afraid to rig an explosive or two.”

Paxton is best known for his work in HBO’s Big Love and Twister.

Agents of Shield premieres tonight at 8 p.m. on ABC. Check out some clips from tonight’s episode below
