Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D fans may be excited to know that we’re getting another female agent. Actress Saffron Burrows has been cast to appear in at least one episode as lesbian S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Victoria Hand, a fan-favorite. Burrows herself is out and proud as bisexual. Latino Review posted the story on October 25, and the Marvel website gave us our first look today.
You may recognize Saffron Burrows as Dr. Susan McCallister in Deep Blue Sea, Andromache in Troy, Lorraine Weller in Boston Legal, or Detective Serena Stevens in Law & Order: Criminal Intent.
The most exciting thing about Hand is that she isn’t one of the good guys, but she’s not necessarily one of the bad guys, either. She falls somewhere in between. According to Screen Crush, in the November 12 episode, she’ll be introduced – reprimanding Coulson for breaking protocol. Showrunner Jed Whedon describes Hand as “a strong, ruthless woman who will do anything to get the job done.”
