All Entertainment Will Be 3D According to James Cameron

Uh oh. It seems movie ticket prices are only going to continue to rise if James Cameron has his way. The Oscar winning director has predicted that it’s a 3D future for “all [forms of] entertainment”. For those that have seen Avatar (basically everyone on the planet), they have experienced firsthand how much Cameron loves 3D. He’s continuing this love with the three Avatar sequels, all of which are planned to have a 3D release.

Cameron told the BBC, “For me, it’s absolutely inevitable that entertainment will be 3D.  It’ll all be 3D eventually because that’s how we see the world.”

Cameron went on to state that three of the past four Oscar winners for cinematography – Avatar, Hugo, and Life of Pi – were 3D movies. These recent statements from Cameron seem to contradict his earlier comments made last month where he criticized Hollywood’s current trend of converting everything to 3D. While he didn’t seem to have a problem with his own film, Titanic, being released in 3D this past year, he did suggest that several recent films, such as Man of Steel and Iron Man 3, did not need to be in 3D.

Do you think that 3D is the future of entertainment? Do you prefer to watch films in 2D or 3D?
