The pandemic has impacted the performing arts industry like never before. With music venues and theatres closed for over a year, artists everywhere are itching to perform again. Last September, Nashville-based artist Alyssa Jacey not only performed in front of a live audience but also produced a new album from the show. That album – ‘Alyssa Jacey LIVE!’, which PopWrapped are delighted to premiere and will be released on Friday, was recorded during her live concert on September 16th at the Argyros Theatre in Sun Valley, ID. The album consists of 14 songs – 11 originals and 3 covers – with Jacey singing, rapping, and playing acoustic guitar and foot tambourine to a socially-distanced audience.
The show idea was born out of Jacey planning a trip to visit her father in Hailey, ID for his birthday. Eager to find performance opportunities, she called a few venues in the area. Luckily, the Argyros Performing Arts Center had several openings due to the pandemic. She booked the show and it sold out in under an hour.
Jacey says of creating the album: “I’m always releasing new music, which I love doing, but this album is extra unique because it’s 100% live. It’s my first album of nine that’s not only all live, but with me performing as a one-woman-band because I’m playing anywhere from one to three instruments simultaneously.”
She goes on to add: “Another reason this particular album is so special is because the venue – The Argyros – hired me as the first artist to perform since the pandemic started, which made me feel SO proud to be a part of. It was kind of like “pressing unpause,” as you’ll hear executive director Casey Mott say, on track 1, during the introduction. And on top of all of THAT, this audience was AWESOME with all their singing and clapping…and blue outfits!”
