Calling all Sherlockians! This is not a drill. I repeat. This is not a drill.
We can all rest easy knowing that BBC’s Sherlock will not let Mary Morstan, the lovely fiancée of John Watson, come between the doctor and his detective friend, one Mr. Sherlock Holmes.
The confirmation comes straight out of the mouth of the actress playing Watson’s fiancée, Amanda Abbington, reports DigitalSpy.
Abbington, who will appear in Sherlock’s upcoming third season, told Metro that her character will not negatively affect the pairs relationship in any way. It’s a good thing Morstan will not come between the dynamic pair because quite frankly, the fans would not be able to handle it – and Abbington knows this.
She told Metro, “It was daunting [to join the series] because Martin and Benedict do have such amazing chemistry, and there’s such a thing about those two on the internet – fans who are obsessed with the idea of those two being together.”
Another major factor that had fans stirring was the fact that off-screen, Abbington is married to her onscreen husband, Martin Freeman. Fans were quick to hop on the nepotism train, and rode it all the way to Twitter.
She said that fans on Twitter were quick to throw accusations of favoritism her way and say things like, “OMG, she’s awful.”
The actress addressed the hatred with professionalism and grace. She said, “I know I’m not going to be to everybody’s taste but hopefully some people will think I’m good.”
All us Sherlockians here at PopWrapped can say with confidence that we cannot wait for the upcoming season of Sherlock and that we cannot wait to see Amanda Abbington’s take on the famous Arthur Conan Doyle character. After all, we have waited for this season for a long time.
