Amazon has announced a digital book subscription service that will grant users access to about 600,000 eBooks as well as around a thousand audio books for only $9.99 per month. Amazon will be offering a free 30 day trial for users who wish to see the benefits of “Kindle Unlimited”.
Users who sign up for the service will also get a free three month Audible membership. Senior Vice President of Kindle, Russ Grandinetti, claims that “with ‘Kindle Unlimited’, you won’t have to think twice before you try a new author or genre – you can just start reading and listening.”
Customers have given mixed responses to Amazons announcement and are skeptical about which books will be available through “Kindle Unlimited”. In addition, despite Amazon having over 150,000 audio books “Kindle Unlimited” users will only have free access to about a thousand. Only upon its release will it be decided if “Kindle Unlimited” is a hit or a miss. Amazon has yet to announce if this service will be available outside of the US.
