American Idol Reveals Top 8 Guys During Motown Week!

American Idol reveals Top 8 guys during Motown Week! Which of the remaining 12 made the cut?

Eventually we’ll be down to one night a week folks!!

With the girls of American Idol discovering their fate tonight, it was all down to the 12 remaining guys last night to sing for your votes next week. Unfortunately, 4 of them wouldn’t be performing!! The evening kicked off with the Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin bringing down the house with her explosive cover of “I Will Survive”!!

Ryan informed us at the top of the hour that he would be announcing the 8 guys that made it through this weeks elimination and moving on to the Top 8.

So who was the first lucky guy?
Daiel Seavey – How Sweet It Is by Marvin Gaye

Daniel seemed a tad shocked by his placing, and yours truly was admittedly shocked as well. Daniel’s got the adorable down, but the vocals need some work. How would he do with his Marvin Gaye cover during Motown week? Well, it was good. Nothing extraordinary by any means, but he had some stellar moments.

Check it out:

Next up, making the Top 8 guys was…..

Adam Ezegelian – I Want You Back by the Jackson 5

Again, a placing that somewhat shocked yours truly. Not to say that his performance last week wasn’t good, but there are definitely other guys who could have benefited from his spot.

Now, as for his Jackson 5 performance? Not feeling it. What did you guys think?

Time for spot number 3, and it was going to Rayvon Owen!!

Rayvon Owen – My Girl by The Temptations

FINALLY!!

A vocal I can rave about!!

Rayvon being in the Top 8 definitely made me happy, as did his performance of the Temptations classic number. Rayvon put his own signature sound all over the song and it was the best vocal of the night so far.

There were only 5 spots left, and the next one went to Mark Andrew!!

Mark Andrew – Papa Was a Rolling Stone by The Temptations

Mark being in Top 8 is a GOOD thing, unfortunately his performance was a tad underwhelming for me. His vocals weren’t bad by any means, but there were times where I thought he forgot his lyrics just because of how he was ending his runs. It confused me with the style he was going for. Not a bad vocal, but not his greatest either.

And now possibly for the best entry into the top 8 yet:

Clark Beckham – Tracks of my Tears by Smokey Robinson & the Miracles

YES!!!!

Clark is hands down, the strongest guy in the competition and he’s leaving the others in the dust as he makes a beeline for the finale. The choices Clark makes with his growls and screeches, are just everything and I can’t wait to see what he does next.

Only 3 spots remaining……

Nick Fradiani – Signed, Sealed, Delivered by Stevie Wonder

Another one of my picks!!

Nick’s suave demeanor took the stage and once again delivered a swooning performance, this time set to the tune of Stevie Wonder.

Nick has the likability factor going for him, and paired with his Daughtry sized voice (I’m not the only one who hears that right?)  he is a serious contender this season. Another stellar performance!

The night wouldn’t be complete without one shock right?

Qasssim Middleton – I Wish by Stevie Wonder

Hear me out:

Qassim is DAMN TALENTED, and his James Brown type dance moves are definitely a good time, but this vocal was all over the place. His energy is infectious, it just wasn’t on the same level vocally as Clark and Nick’s were. Or even Rayvon’s.

What did you guys think?

And in the last place of the night, making Top 8……

Quentin Alexander – Master Blaster by Stevie Wonder

When Ryan Seacrest announced Quentin’s name, I may have screamed.

In a good way!!

Last week, Quentin’s performance of “I Put A Spell On You” was the highlight of the night, but this week?

Song choice, song choice, song choice.

Quentin’s reggae flavored Stevie performance fell very flat for yours truly, but I am still very happy he mad it through. His vocals are insanely good (when he has the right song).

There you have it.

Your Top 8 guys!!

Unfortunately, this meant we had to say goodbye to Riley Bria, Savion Wright, Trevor Douglas and Michael Simeon. I truly believe Adam’s spot should have gone to Michael.

What did you guys think of the guys tonight?
