Break out the tissues and get ready. An Amy Winehouse documentary is in production and will premier at the Cannes Film Festival next month. The documentary, produced by Asif Kapadia, will detail the singer’s life and her untimely death. As if it wasn’t hard enough to deal the first time.

Kapadia says “Amy was a once in a generation talent who captured everybody’s attention [because] she wrote and sung from the heart and everyone fell under her spell.” When discussing her downfall which led to her premature death, he states “Amy seemed to fall apart under the relentless media attention, her troubled relationships, her global success and precarious lifestyle.” Sounds like some current celebrities in the news.

He also made what is a very true statement about any celebrity, especially Amy: “As a society we celebrated her huge success, but then we were quick to judge her failings when it suited us.” He’s right. We celebrate celebrities when they succeed but as soon as they slip up we attack them and ridicule their choices.
