Much to the chagrin of Sherlock fans everywhere, the third long-awaited season of the British television show is already over. But take heart Sherlockians, there is a confirmed fourth season in the works.

However, according to Digital Spy, Martin Freeman is “unsure of when Sherlock will return for its fourth series.”

It has been reported that the BBC might fast-track Sherlock’s fourth season. Co-creator Steven Moffat said, “he wants the show to be back ‘as quickly’ as possible.”

Access Hollywood asked Freeman recently if there was any truth to the rumors that Sherlock could be returning sooner than expected.

“That’s news to me,” he said. “People have told me that today. If journalists are saying it, it must be true. I don’t know.”

“I’ve not read any new scripts. So all I know is we all like the show, we all want to keep doing it for as long as we want to do it and as long as we enjoy it,” the BAFTA-winning actor added.

Freeman will also appear in the FX television remake of Fargo, which could interfere with his role as trusty Dr. John Watson.

The third series of Sherlock will premiere in the United States on PBS this weekend.
