Over the past couple of years, many comic book characters have come out of the closet, but will a Marvel icon be joining the LGBT community?

Amazing Spider-Man 2 star Andrew Garfield stirred the question in an exclusive interview with Entertainment Weekly.

“Why can’t we discover that Peter is exploring his sexuality?” Garfield posed to EW’s Sara Vilkomerson in a story that will be featured in this Friday’s issue. “It’s hardly even groundbreaking… so why can’t he be gay? Why can’t he be into boys?”

Garfield also added that he wanted to transform a major supporting player in the Webbed Wonder’s life in an interesting way. If the former Social Network cast member had it his way, Mary Jane Watson (MJ) would be a dude. In fact, he already has an actor in mind.

I’ve been obsessed with Michael B. Jordan since The Wire,” said Garfield.  “He’s so charismatic and talented. It’d be even better—we’d have interracial bisexuality!”

Fans will be able to catch a preview of Amazing Spider-Man 2 as a part of Sony’s Hall H presentation at Comic-Con International in San Diego. The panel is slated to start at 4:15 p.m. on Friday, July 19. Garfield, director Marc Webb, Jamie Foxx and Dane DeHaan will all be present at the panel.
