Angelina Jolie is bringing a little bit of Hollywood to Australia when she begins filming on her second directorial venture, Unbroken.
The shoot will take place in both New South Wales, at Sydney’s Fox Studios Australia and Queensland, at Village Roadshow Studios on the Gold Coast. Filming is expected to begin October 21 and last through most of November.
Screen Queensland COO, Jennie Hughes, has said that, “it is a testament to the many unique locations and quality of crew we have to offer.” She went on to add that, “it will create a substantial amount of jobs for the film and television industry in Queensland, putting the business back in show business”
Being backed by Universal Studios, Unbroken is based on the best-selling novel and true story by Laura Hillenbrand which tells the story of Olympian and war hero, Louis Zamperini.
Zamperini and two fellow crewmen survived on a raft for 47 days after their plane crashed during World War II, only to be captured by the Japanese Navy and sent to a prisoner-of-war camp.
The film stars Jack O’Connell (300: Rise of an Empire) as Louis Zamperini, alongside Garrett Hedlund (TRON: Legacy), Domhnall Gleeson (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows) and Finn Wittrock (All My Children)
Being produced by Jolie, Matthew Baer, Erwin Scott and Clayton Townsend, Unbroken is due for theatrical release on December 25, 2014.
