Captain America franchise newcomer Anthony Mackie has given the scoop on his introduction into the Marvel universe as the character Falcon in Captain America: Winter Soldier.
Mackie will play alongside Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson who will reprise their roles as Captain America and the Black Widow.
“It’s so much bigger than everyone thought it would be, and we’re kicking a lot of ass,” Mackie revealed to Rolling Stone when asked if he’s seen any footage. “It’s a lot of fun to be a part of, especially with Samuel L. Jackson, who’s been my mentor for so many years.”
Captain America won’t be the first time Mackie has teamed up with Chris Evans. They both have been friends for four years, according to Mackie, and have been supporting each other’s film careers.
“We’re like Ebony and Ivory!” Mackie joked.
Already in fit shape for his role as Agent Shavers in movie Runner, Runner, Mackie said he took advantage of his fit-state to go for the role of Falcon.
“I wanted Falcon to be really lean, so it couldn’t have worked out better timing wise,” he said. “I worked so hard to get my body in shape that I wanted to show it off.”
Mackie insisted his character wear spandex to show off his lean stature. Unfortunately, he explained that “[Marvel] decided that they wanted Falcon to be more of a military character, which I’m not complaining about, because my gear looks dope and I get to kick a lot of ass.”
If you’re ready for a butt-kicking adventure, keep a lookout for Captain America: Winter Soldier in theaters Spring 2014.
