Canadian rock band Arcade Fire have taken a powerful and relevant approach to their latest music video.

Starring The Amazing Spider-Man 2’s Andrew Garfield, “We Exist” was filmed at this year’s Coachella music festival in California, and, as the description beneath the video notes, it “follows the story of a young person’s struggle with gender identity”.

Without giving any specific details away, the video depicts the real and violent reactions that many have to those who don’t conform to society’s traditional ideas of gender, and the empowerment that hopefully strikes once identity is realized.

“We Exist” is from the band’s fourth album, Reflektor, released late last year.
