Thanks to Urban Dictionary, Ashton Kutcher, and a nameless 12 year old, I now know what swatting is.
For those of you who may need a lesson like I did, here’s the definition.
Swatting: A goal achieved by hacking where the hacker tricks 911 systems into deploying SWAT to an unsuspecting victim’s home under false pretenses.
According to TMZ, the young lad decided to have his own version of “Punk’d” and swatted Ashton Kutcher by making a prank 911 call claiming that there were people in Kutcher’s home with weapons, ammunition, and explosives, and that several people had been shot. When the cops stormed the house, they realized the call was fake.
The tween in question admitted to the crime, and is now facing a felony charge. He will face a judge in the near future for sentencing. In this case, the judge has full control over what happens to the young lad, which could range from house arrest to serving his sentence in a group facility.
The same tween is also facing misdemeanor charges with a similar incident involving Justin Bieber.
