Tired of waiting for the real thing to come down under, a group of Australian Darren Criss fans have organized their own concert, called Dumb Humans Like Darren, which will feature a line-up of musicians and performers who have all been inspired by the singer, songwriter, actor and all around awesome person that is Darren Criss.

The concert is the brainchild of Adelaide based musician and event headliner, Max Garcia-Underwood, who credits the star as an “inspiration” and says that he was motivated to find a way to celebrate the influence that Criss has played in the lives of so many young Australians. Max is best known for his YouTube video series The Darren Criss Project

“As a musician myself, Darren has inspired me a lot over the last few years and I know I’m not alone in that inspiration,” he said. “There are a lot of talented musicians around Australia, and the world, who would love to share their massive love for his songwriting but lack a viable forum, so I wanted to create one.”

The ninety-minute show will feature a line-up of Criss’ entire career to date, from his humble beginnings as part of the YouTube viral sensation A Very Potter Musical and as an unknown college-kid playing gigs in coffee shops, to the release of his Human EP, up to his casting and subsequent meteoric rise to fame as Blaine Anderson in musical mega-hit Glee and his 2013 sold-out North-American Listen Up Tour.

Other artists joining Max include local solo artist Darcy Fox and a number of other Darren fans who won their place on stage by participating in the “Dumb Humans Search,” which asked entrants to submit a cover of their favorite Darren song. The finalists, chosen by a group of judges including Max and other members of the Dumb Humans organizing committee, were then invited to perform that cover as part of the concert.

The event will also feature a montage of fan-made covers from around the world and serve as the launch for the Dumb Humans Like Darren photo montage project. The project, designed to highlight the role that Criss has played in the lives of his fans, invites fans to snap a selfie of themselves with the reasons why they are a “Dumb human like Darren” to form part of a Dumb Humans Like Darren montage to be sent to the star.

All proceeds for the event will be donated to The Reach Foundation to assist with their programs for young people, regardless of their circumstances.

The event takes place May 8 2014 at The Esplanade St Kilda in Melbourne, Australia. Livestream details will be release closer to the date.
