Reports are starting to leak that Benedict Cumberbatch has been cast in Marvel’s Doctor Strange.
The film, set for 2016, is to be directed by Scott Derrickson, and has had a variety of actors considered for the role, including Tom Hardy, Keanu Reeves, Ryan Gosling and Jared Leto.
Marvel had been in talks with Joaquin Phoenix about the role, but negotiations fell through, leaving Cumberbatch ready to be locked in and confirmed.
The Emmy winner for BBC’s Sherlock is aiming for Oscars this year with The Imitation Game. He also recently starred in Star Trek: Into Darkness, The Hobbit franchise, and will be playing Shere Khan in Jungle Book: Origins.

Doctor Stephen Strange was a neurosurgeon who was in a tragic car accident that left both hands useless. After a desperate search to find any form of cure for it, he stumbles across The Ancient One in the Himalayas, who teaches him selflessness and the ways of the mystical arts to form him into the Sorcerer Supreme, defender of the Earth from magical threats.
I think it will be an excellent casting, and I can’t wait to see what he does with it!
What do you think of the casting?
