David knew he had to help. Huffington Post reports that a family friend suggested crowd-funding which led him and his family to create a page on the GoFundMe site titled, “David’s Crush Lost Her Daddy.”

“My crush since 2nd grade lost her daddy last week. He had no life insurance. I would like to help her family in some way. Please consider donating. Thank you.”

This was the description of David’s post. With a starting goal of $500, the Carnahan’s quickly saw extraordinary support flow in for Jolie’s family and within 24 hours their goal had been met. As of the writing of this post, the campaign has brought in almost $4,000.

“He personally thanks every single donor himself,” David’s mother told HuffPost. “He’s learned a lot.”
