It’s finally here! The very first trailer for Marvel’s upcoming sequel to Thor has hit the web! The trailer for Thor: The Dark World made its debut today, and let me tell you, it looks awesome! Yes, Marvel is back in a big way – first with Iron Man 3 this summer, then with this Thor sequel in November.
In this trailer we get glimpses of all the major players – Natalie Portman is back as Jane, Kat Dennings returns as Darcy, Chris Hemsworth returns as Thor, and Tom Hiddleston returns as Loki. There appears to be a good deal more of Sif (Jaimie Alexander) this time around, judging by all of the shots of her fighting in the clip. We also get a short, but chilling shot of Christopher Eccleston in his role as Malekith the Accursed, who we assume is the main villain in the movie.
But who don’t we see (yet)? Well, so far there’s no sign of Stellan Skarsgard’s Dr. Erik Selvig, or Idris Elba’s Heimdall. Another character (or two) that we can’t wait to see is Adewale Akinnouye-Agbaje’s dual role of Algrim and Kurse. According to Marvel lor, Algrim the Strong is a Dark Elf (like Malekith) who is transformed into Kurse after a near-fatal accident. We’ll have to see if this makes its way into Thor: The Dark World.
From what we can tell the film takes place equally in Asgard and on Earth. In the first Thor film the bridge between Earth and Asgard was broken, yet he made it back for Avengers, so we can assume this film happens between those two films. This is the official summary of the sequel:
Marvel’s “Thor: The Dark World” continues the big-screen adventures of Thor, the Mighty Avenger, as he battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself. In the aftermath of Marvel’s “Thor” and “Marvel’s The Avengers,” Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos…but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness. Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all.
