Brandon Colbein talks new single, “Mad”, influences, and more.

Brandon Colbein just released a stunning, heart-string pulling, ballad “Mad” and suddenly, we are contemplating a lot of our most recent relationships and some we’ve had for years. Taking a step back and reflecting on what is, what could’ve been, and what will be is not always easy, but Brandon’s perspective makes it scarily easy to do so.

“Every one of my songs are shaped by a personal experience. I am a very conversational writer & want people to understand the concept easily. Mad, in particular, started off about a previous relationship but quickly developed into a song about multiple aspects of my life. Most recently the song relates to my relationship with my father, which does not exist, for very good reasons.” Brandon told us.

I just try to make each song as conversational as possible. Like I am talking to you, directly. I am not a fan of trying to confuse the listener or find roundabout ways to say something that is so simple. I would rather organize simple words in a beautiful way. To be honest, I always like my fans & viewers to interpret the song how they choose, so they can feel like its a part of their story as well as mine.” Brandon also noted.

“So many artists influence my writing. I think I’m like a vibe sponge. In particular, I gravitate toward euro-pop artists like Tove Lo, MNEK but also have a strong pull toward more soulful or alt artists like John Legend & Coldplay. In regards to what stands out about them… Id say it’s the pure authenticity of their words & image. I don’t feel like I am being presented as a “fantasy” which I prefer. I feel like from the few artists I listened above I am just listening to their truest self, not a fake persona looking for a quick buck or fame... If I had to choose one takeaway {from this release}.. it would be that you don’t have to have a relationship with anyone because you have history. It’s ok to move on, it is ok to hurt, It is ok to be mad.

Additionally, Brandon hopes to have an EP or album out Spring 2020. For now, you can stream “Mad” and the Stripped version on all major music streaming platforms. You can also follow along Brandon’s journey on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
